CANTERBURY BUILD FOUNDATION OF SKILLS FOR PLAYERS AND COACHES

Canterbury Hockey has benefitted from a Hockey Foundation grant toward the costs of developing and delivering skills programmes and coach development courses.

Two programmes which have been designed and implemented for player development are ‘Hockey Accelerators’ and ‘Accelerated Skills Programme’. Sessions were designed to improve participant’s fitness, technical skills and tactical understanding.

These programmes were delivered after the 2015 hockey season, in the build up for the 2016 season and leading up to 2016 representative trials. All of which had a high number of participants and experienced coaches involved.

‘Canterbury Hockey’s Coach Development’ programmes were also delivered with Hockey Foundation funding support. Multiple courses covered all coaching groups, from coaches working with 5 year olds up to coaches with open grade club or representative teams.

The Coach Development programmes were designed to up-skill coaches by supplying them with hockey knowledge and coaching theory. These coaches are now using these skills with teams throughout the community, helping grow hockey at grassroots level in Canterbury.
